How do I clean my blinds?

Very carefully! Just kidding, Woods, Faux Woods & Mini Blinds can be put in the bath tub or large basin. OR The old sock method seems to do pretty well on anything with a slat. Best trick: tilt the slats all the way in the “closed” position and wipe down with damp cloth. Tilt slats closed in the other direction. Wipe down with damp cloth. Done. Cellular or Honeycomb units, Roman Shades or anything with fabric will benefit from the run through with a vacuum attachment periodically. Solar Screens-can be wiped down also.

What units are best for mold-prone areas such as bathrooms?

Faux Woods, were originally designed specifically for bathrooms for that very reason. Regular wood window coverings will have a light stain or coating of paint, and are still fairly porous. Over time units may be compromised by consistent humidity that is typically normal in a bathroom. Faux Woods are made of a composite material that is pressed into shape. This results in a less porous material that is more resistant to humidity. Faux woods are a bit heavier than real wood Blinds, so they require more ladders to hold them into place. (ladders are the strings that hold the slats into position and guide them to be louvered open and closed.

What is the difference between horizontal and vertical blinds?

It’s simply a matter of positioning. Window covering slats run either vertical or Horizontal. Shutters, Cellular, Wood Blinds etc have horizontal slats that can be raised or lowered, like the sun rising or setting on the Horizon-. (Show image of blinds from WOOD BLINDS on PRODUCTS PAGE) Vertical units are often called just that-Verticals. Vertical Blinds have slats that are secured to a headrail located at the top of the unit. The Slats will hand down Vertically to the bottom of the window or unit. Vertical units are used in industrial settings for their durability, and on sliding back doors of homes.

What blinds are the most energy efficient?

All window coverings have some insulation properties. Honeycombs or Cellular Blinds are the best insulators during all seasons, keeping your space warmer in the winter and the cooler in the summer. The Honeycomb shape (think of your favorite fluffy jacket) traps a layer of air and creates a barrier between the hot or cold air seeping in from the window and your space.  We will gladly explain the energy efficient properties of all of our products to make sure you choose the perfect blinds or shades for your needs.
